- Use
the basic child support form, DC 637, for situations
where there is joint or sole custody and the children
live primarily with one parent and have shorter periods
of visitation with the other.
- The main determining factors in selection of this form
are 1) the number of days in the primary home exceed
274, and 2) the children are not split between the parents.

- Use the split custody
support form, DC 638, for situations where the parents
each have one or more children in their home as the
primary residence. For example, if a couple has a daughter
and a son and the father takes the son and the mother
takes the daughter, use the split custody form.

- Use
the shared custody support form, DC 640, when the parent
with the fewer days has 91 days or more with the
child and the parent with the most days has 274
days or more. The total number of days needs to
add up to 365.
- Calculate supporat using the
basic form too and then select the lowest result. However,
note that the law prohibits reducing the child support to
a level that endangers the child. See more about this
